WHAT IS A PERMIT?
A Building Permit is a written authorization from the building department to carry out a construction project. Permits are meant to ensure homeowners or contractors are complying with local building codes and standards. Open or Expired Permits can mean that work was carried out but never inspected for such compliance so a homebuyer will want to insist that a permit search be conducted.
